Porcelain veneers are used to correct cosmetic problems with the teeth, not a lack of function, which makes them different from crowns and bridges. Veneers are made to perfectly fit your teeth and match your aesthetic preferences and are bonded to the front of the tooth or teeth you are wanting to cover. These help many people cope with insecurity regarding various imperfections in their teeth.
Why Get Porcelain Veneers?
The only reason to get veneers is that you are unhappy with the appearance of your teeth. With veneers, a wide variety of flaws can be hidden away, giving you your dream smile. Also, unlike real teeth, they do not yellow with age. Some of the imperfections we can mask with veneers include:
- Crooked teeth
- Crowded teeth
- Gaps in the teeth
- Miscolored fillings.
How Veneers Are Placed
In most cases, we will need to reshape the enamel to make the tooth better able to receive the veneer. Once the reshaping has been done, we will take an impression of the tooth or teeth and color match the surrounding teeth so the veneers will blend in. The impression will be used to create a mold, from which the veneers will be created. Before you leave our office, we will use this mold to create a temporary veneer so you look great while you wait for the permanent veneer to be ready.
Once the permanent veneer is ready, the temporary one will be removed and the permanent veneer will be placed on the teeth. We will verify the fit and look is correct and allow you to inspect it before we apply the cement to fix it into place. If there are any problems, we will put the temporary veneer back on and create a new veneer for you. Once the veneer is bonded to the teeth, it is polished, along with the rest of your teeth.
