Dental crowns are a long-lasting and durable form of tooth prosthetics that allow individuals with severely damaged teeth to still have a smile that is both beautiful and functional. The porcelain crowns we create for our Glennville orthodontics patients are beautiful, life-like, and made to blend in with the surrounding teeth. Unlike other forms of cosmetic dentistry, crowns are usually covered by dental insurance since they restore the function of the teeth in addition to looks.
Dental crowns are designed to restore the strength and appearance of damaged and decayed teeth. While there are other options for restoring teeth, crowns remain the most popular due to their durability and affordability, as well as their ease of placement. If you are in need of a dental crown, we are more than happy to create it and place it for you.
Dental Crowns Overview
Getting a dental crown takes two visits. During your first trip to the office, we will take x-rays of the tooth to determine that the remaining tooth is stable enough to support a crown. If it is, we will talk to you about the materials we can use and complete a color matching process so the tooth fits in well with the surrounding teeth. If there is any decay or old fillings left, we will remove it and shape the tooth to make it better able to hold the crown. If needed, we can build up the tooth so it is better able to hold the crown.
Once this is done, we take a mold of the tooth to be used in creating the permanent crown, as well as a temporary crown so you do not feel self-conscious while the permanent one is made. A dental lab will create your custom crown. Once it is ready, we will bond it to the prepared tooth using strong cement and complete any final shaping needed. Once we are done, your crown will look just like your other teeth, and will function as well as them.
